The Best Way to Safely Remove Removable Media and Storage Devices

Everytime you insert or plug-in your USB's or Removable Hard Disk's into your machine you'll be able to see that green device icon on the taskbar if the device's driver were installed properly and somewhat greyed if not.

There are two different ways on how to safely remove a removable media or storage device that are connected on your computer.

So what is your best approach to quickly remove your device safely? Knowing that all you need to deal with is that icon in the taskbar. You also need to consider closing all opened files, folders and applications that resides within your removable storage device. If you encountered error when removing your device safely please take time to read How to Prevent Windows from Caching DLLs.

As an observation from people and colleagues that I've worked with few years back. Most of them usually double clicked or right clicked on the removable device icon. And there's that pop-up dialog box where you can select the removable drive you wish to remove. And then click on the Stop button to finally remove the device safely. But doesn't that take much time and user interaction? I guess so...^_^

However, if we also take consideration on handling mouse events like just a single click on that device icon. You'll be surprised that there other options on how to safely remove the device quicker and faster which does same function as of the other mentioned above.

If you try clicking on the icon once, a pop-up menu of all the removable drives will be shown. Clicking on the menu item of the drive letter of your removable storage will then now safely remove the storage device. In just two clicks and you're all set!
